No me and the singer in my band both write lyrics and guitar but when the music flows then you can write words down its kinnda wierd.

No, you don't have to. Lennon and McCartney did a pretty good job without any knowledge of theory. But knowing some music theory sure helps because truth be told, most of us don't have the ears, creativity, or musical genius of someone like Lennon or McCartney.

U dont have to but u should at least know the major scale minor scale and what basic chords are but after that yeah do what cha want!

It doesn't hurt, and sometimes helps if you're in a tough spot and don't know where to go with your song, but it's definitely not necessary. I've written a lot of songs without using theory.
