Question: When writing a song, is it bad to go outside of a scale in some measures?

My band wrote a song, and it sounds majorly epic, if you will. I tabbed it out into Guitar Pro 5 tabbing program, and noticed that whenever I use the built- in Scale Finder (scans the entire tab for a common scale pattern.) It came up with many scales, which mean some of the notes in the song aren't following a solid scale. But if I change that note to accommodate the song's scale, it makes the note sound foreign, which ruins the entire measure. So I figured I'd let it slip. Now, I'm no music major, but if we take this song to a recording studio, and the producer notices this small little note, will he take notice to it greatly enough to change the entire measure, let alone the single note that's off- scale? @Alexandra Good point, I've thought the same way. If it doesn't fit, then you might as well not try hiding it. Many bands I listen to have certain "strange " parts that contribute well to the song. |
