I'm writing a song and the chord progression is similar to another song. Am I violating the copyright?
Chord progression C Am F GSimilar to " crocodile rock" transposed up 5 steps.Melody is completely different.rhythym is different too. its just a similar progression. Haha and men at work got screwed. the songs aren't even that similar.

Do you write lyrics or music first when writing a song?
i'm trying my hand at writing a song for my band, but all i have in mind are lyrics. do you write the music first and then put in the words or write music once the lyrics are down? i don't want to do this wrong and then have to start over.

Okay so las night I was messing around with my guitar and got a tune put together for a song. I really want the lyrics to have a deep meaning. I have a really good idear for what I want it to be about but I have no idear where to start. Idear me and my fianc always argue and he has become a better person for me and we've been through so much together. We've been fighting alot lately about how I treat him and how I'm not the person he fell in love with. I really wanna write a song about it to show him that I do care about hiM and that I wanna change for him because he has given me one last chance.Help?We got it all figured out last night so we got the talking part done. And it's pretty much my second chance but my last one. I've told him that I was ona chane and I'm keeping my promise but I just wanna write a song to tell that story I guess?

When writing a song, is it bad to go outside of a scale in some measures?
My band wrote a song, and it sounds majorly epic, if you will. I tabbed it out into Guitar Pro 5 tabbing program, and noticed that whenever I use the built in Scale Finder scans the entire tab for a common scale pattern. It came up with many scales, which mean some of the notes in the song aren't following a solid scale. But if I change that note to accommodate the song's scale, it makes the note sound foreign, which ruins the entire measure. So I figured I'd let it slip.Now, I'm no music major, but if we take this song to a recording studio, and the producer notices this small little note, will he take notice to it greatly enough to change the entire measure, let alone the single note that's off scale? AlexandraGood point, I've thought the same way. If it doesn't fit, then you might as well not try hiding it. Many bands I listen to have certain " strange" parts that contribute well to the song.

Songwriters of R&P: How often do you write a song that you're happy with?
On occasion, I try to write songs. Normally, I'm just not happy with them...well, not the words at least. Sometimes I will get a few short lines that I come up with that I do like, but I never usually seem to write a complete song that I'm ever happy with excluding a few instrumentals I've written .
