Write about something you feel passionately about. Don't write a love song if you've never been in love. Don't write a breakup song if you've never broken up. If you're writing a sad song, you should be able to cry as you sing it. Let the subject come to you, don't try to find it. Also, when the subject comes to you, don't go cheesy on the lyrics. we've all heard "oh baby please love me/ i love you so much, can't you see? " be clever, be witty, look up a rhyming dictionary. Some songwriters i'd look at for inspiration: Eminem, Leiber and Stoller (The Coasters, the Drifters, Elvis Presley), and Sam Cooke. Good Luck! |
