Question: If someone is trying to write songs or be in a band is it best use drugs?

It is never good too use drugs. Wouldn't be much of a lyricist if you where too develop schizophrenia. Edit - @Jimmy - yes drugs can cause schizophrenia.

No, you dont need drugs to be a good music artist. unlike many famous artists thats not what you need, you will just make your life a living hell.

It's one thing to do drugs because you enjoy them or whatever, but if you *have* to rely on substances to write, how authentic is your work?

Most people take drugs everyday in one form or another. Coffee drinkers have caffeine in their system. Who knows what drugs are in tobacco products? Many people take drugs for hypertension or cholesterol. (Did you ever listen to the side-effects of drugs that are advertised on radio or TV) Other people take multiple drugs daily. Every type of drug affects someone one way or another and some people can handle a particular drug better than other people. My point is that it depends on the drug, the person taking it, and their tolerance of it. I know people that smoke marijuana every day before and during work and you would never know it. Maybe Keith Richards would have been a great songwriter if he didn't chain smoke, Lol.

Well its not "best " but it might let something out that would've never come out with out drugs. just look at the sgt. peppers album by the beatles
