Question: I have question about song writing and what not on garageband?

I'm writing songs right now, (on garagaband) and I'm a little confused. I'm planning on sending my stuff into a record company. I only know how to play piano, and the songs that I right (in my head) have all the works. Should I just record my voice, and put a few piano chords in there? Or should I do something different? Thanks for all your help!
