So i've been playing guitar for a little over 7- 8 months and i feel like i'm pretty good, and i have wanted to write songs from the beginning. the only thing is that i dont really know where to start. i have ideas for lyrics and that stuff. how can i expand on those ideas. how do i get a melody or the music...any tips on that, i'm looking for a blink- 182 type song or angels and airwaves

If you need a melody, start with the guitar. play around a bit, til you find something you like. then, i do some of the lyrics, maybe a verse and chorus, before i pick up an instrument to do the background music. this way, you have an idea where you're going, but you're not too far if you have to edit. when you have a verse and chorus, then pick up you're guitar and play a bit for the back stuff. if you dont like the format of the lyrics, edit them. once you like you're verse/ chorus/ music ensemble, add more verses (using the same guitar chords as the first), and a bridge, and maybe an outro. i hope this helps!!! mine??? thanks... answers.yahoo.com/ question/ index;_ylt= AtshN_bevj22hwlM.H0JkcDsy6IX;_ylv= 3?qid= 20100118201135AAyRL2E

When I write a song I usually have something that I am strongly feeling to share with others. Sometimes I hear the music in my head while the words come to me. Other times I write a poem or a story and then look for the right notes to follow the feeling of what I have written. I find it helpful to tape record my songs while I am writing them so I do not forget exactly how it came out when it felt perfect. I mostly write songs in spanish but I have one spiritual country song I wrote to praise the Lord. Many people write with a partner if one is better at music and another is better at words. The main thing is if you have something you feel strongly about share it with the world.

Write down a few phrases and out them into a hat and draw them out, or listen to your idols/ muses and then sit and strum some chords fo a while.... i do that and I have over 50 songs :)
