1. learn instrument 2. think of chords 3. work Step 1 takes a long time, but you've probably already got it down. Step 2 is easy. Very easy. They don't even have to be 100% original if you use your own timing and melody. Step 3 takes forever. Anybody could think of a crappy song in 3 seconds. The problem is, nobody likes crappy songs. And, you might want to think of lyrics. For that, it's easy, just let it flow. Try to do the ye olde writing trick and just make your pen continue moving for 7 minutes strait, and get rid of all the bad parts once your done. Don't erase anything during those 7 minutes. And do this again and again and again until you're done with that part. Also, when you're finalizing your piece, think about dynamics. There's too many bland songs out there. But, more important than anything else, I can't tell you how to write a song. You've got to base it in your own experiences. Take the emotions you've stored, got bottled up from your favorite memories, and make them into the song. There's no point to writing a love song. Write THE love song, but do it your way. Anything else will suck :P. |
