According to my music professor (back in the ice age) songs are best crafted in a building-block style format. You have a main hook or lick. You have your verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge, etc. Listen to classical music enough and you'll hear the layering effect I'm referring to. Nowadays all you need is drop tuning and some dysfunctional screaming adolescent ranting about sex and violence and you've got a hit song. But if you want longevity, listen to Eagles, Foo Fighters (which were spawned from the aforementioned dysfunctional screaming adolescent's band) and maybe even some Matchbox Twenty. Jack Johnson is a good song-crafter. So am I. (myspace/ graciasmidios) And I can barely read music (sorry, Prof...) Lionel Richie couldn't read, either. Tabs confuse me. |
